Yamamoto Boss, born Jason Hai Yamamoto, is a San Diego rapper, singer, songwriter, entrepreneur, and founder of Hustler’s Mentality Records. Known as the “Boss of Daygo,” he has become one of the most recognizable independent hip hop artists emerging from San Diego’s modern music scene, building his career through relentless work ethic, live performances, touring, and grassroots community involvement.

Originally launching his music career in 2009, Yamamoto Boss stepped away from music for 14 years before making his return in 2023 with the release of Back On My Grind. The project marked the beginning of a new era defined by independence, resilience, and authenticity. Rather than relying on major label support, he rebuilt his platform from the ground up, performing across California and neighboring states while simultaneously developing his own media and event infrastructure through Hustler’s Mentality Records.

In 2024, Yamamoto Boss expanded his catalog with Boss Level I and SUMMERTIME BOSS, projects that blended West Coast hip hop, melodic rap, storytelling, club records, and emotional themes. The releases helped establish his versatility as an artist capable of moving between street records, party anthems, introspective music, and crossover sounds. His WORLDWIDE EP further showcased his ability to connect with audiences beyond his hometown, while tracks like “LIL WAYNE,” “DAYGO,” “NO MERCY,” and “TWISTED” continued growing his fanbase online and on stage.

In 2025, Yamamoto Boss released his fourth studio album, BOSS OF DAYGO, a defining project dedicated to his late mother and inspired by his journey through struggle, survival, loyalty, and ambition. Featuring collaborations with artists from across the United States, the album solidified his position as both an artist and movement builder within independent hip hop.

Continuing to push collaboration and artist development, he followed with The Collective Vol. 1 (2025) and The Collective Vol. 2 (2026), multi-artist projects bringing together rising talent from different cities, genres, and backgrounds under the Hustler’s Mentality Records banner. Working alongside artists and collaborators such as Jandro, Hawk, TrapphouseMarleyy, ThaCubanPrince, Chicano Slim, Kidder, Jai Fresh, Freeman, and others, Yamamoto Boss has focused heavily on creating opportunities and visibility for independent artists throughout the West Coast scene.

Outside of music releases, Yamamoto Boss has built a reputation for his live performances and touring presence. By 2026, he had performed over 200 live shows across California, Nevada, Arizona, Oregon, and other regions, earning recognition for energetic stage performances, crowd control, and authentic delivery without relying heavily on backing vocals. His performances have included appearances alongside nationally recognized artists and tours connected to the independent underground and West Coast hip hop circuit.

As the founder and operator of the “Major Leagues” hip hop and R&B event series in downtown San Diego, Yamamoto Boss has also become an important figure in local artist development and community building. Through concerts, battles, interviews, and media coverage produced under Hustler’s Mentality Records, he has worked to create platforms for both established and upcoming artists while helping strengthen San Diego’s independent hip hop culture.

Known for records such as “FREE TRAP,” “LIL WAYNE,” “DAYGO,” “BET THAT,” “SNAKE,” and “TWISTED,” Yamamoto Boss represents hustle, resilience, family, loyalty, and perseverance. His music reflects both his personal experiences and his mission to elevate the culture around him while carrying the voice of Daygo onto larger stages.
